I’m to sensitive because
I’m a bad person because
I can’t get my shit together because
I can’t change because
I am sick because
I have had all of these problems before too. This is some of the stories we tell ourselves to stay safe to prevent change and that’s ok you had to, just like I had too also. Ruminating about these issues gets tiring the coulda shoulda and might do’s and procrastination, fear and anxiety need these stories. Why?
These stories once kept you safe yes you invented a small scenario that triggers these statements to remind you of the first time you needed to be safe. This safe space got you away to deal with trauma that was happening in your life when you were small.
What if you thought just now I had no traumatic experiences thinking big nasty events = trauma.
Not everyone has had nasty experiences like what you thought of I thought the same way once too.
Traumatic experiences could be you got embarrassed as a 5 year old getting changed in front of everyone at swimming lessons or you lost a family pet when you were 3 years old or a Grandparent at 4 years old and it impacted your life. Maybe you had a nickname that haunted you given by your family members that did not resonate a good meaning within you when you were small. Interesting 🤔
Then you developed your own mind story how to cope and this story just popped in to action to keep you safe and it worked beautifully when you were small. Now you are big and adult a teenager a parent and this story still plays it’s roll In protecting you. Though now you find yourself in more trouble, issues and situations where this is a problem , not a help is it?
No it’s not broken yet you feel broken 😞 it just doesn’t help anymore. Let’s dig deeper and unpack why, shall we?
This story needs a new narrative that is all. A new story that benefits the big you now a new job.
Though you will need to thank the story the child part of you that made it up to protect you for doing a great job it kept you safe and alive. Now it’s time to retire and give the big part of you a new instruction a new story a change so you can become the person you want to be and achieve your big goals of improving yourself. Think 🤔 of this as an enhancement a new quest a new journey with the best tools 🧰 to move forward.
